Silicone Lube

FYI:

Silicone lubricant is a favorite for anal sex. It is silky, smooth, and doesn’t dry out!

Because it doesn’t contain water which can be absorbed by the skin, silicone lube stays slick for a long time. Unlike water based lubricant, it won’t become sticky or tacky. Reapplying is a thing of the past! Ok, you may still need to reapply, but it is way less frequently.

There are dozens of high quality products available to you today, made by some of the most reputable brands in the personal lubrication industry! Wet, ID, Gun Oil, and Swiss Navy, along with many others, all produce their own versions of the product which vary greatly in all aspects: texture, consistency, quantity, quality and of course, price!

A big difference between silicone and water based lube is that water based lube is water soluble while silicone is not. Water based lube usually rinses off with relative ease, however, silicone requires a little extra attention with some soap and water.

This isn’t a huge deal, but it’s worth paying attention to as lube left in some nooks and crannies on your body can harbor unwanted bacteria. It also means that your sheets may get stained. Although, I’ve found a little Spray ’N Wash does the trick!

While they may vary from brand to brand, almost every silicone lube will share the quality of being silky smooth, which makes it a total winner for anal play!

Ingredients In Silicone Lubricant

Obviously the ingredients of this lube will be different from different brands. However, the ‘silicone’ in it’s name implies that the base will be made of Dimethicone along with a couple of other compounds.

Because of it’s simple ingredient structure, this lube is a good choice for people who have allergies. Although it’s worth double checking the label of brand you are interested in.

Along the same lines, the ability for silicone based lube to remain smooth without becoming tacky means less wear and tear on your epidermis, which is great for people who have sensitive skin.

Is Silicone Lube Condom and Toy Safe?

Yes, it is condom safe. It does not share the same destructive elements of mineral oil based products which means that you are good to go with both latex and polyurethane condoms.

On the toy topic, yes and no. Silicone lube will play great with latex and pvc based toys, however, when dealing with silicone based toys they don’t tend to get along. When two silicone products come in contact they end up getting warped. In this case, your penis-shaped toy will all of a sudden look like a swamp monster… Or just a melted candle. So if you are looking to use your silicone lube with a silicone toy, throw a condom on it first!

Overall

As with anything in life, it’s all about weighing the pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Feels amazing, smooth and slick
  • Doesn’t dry out = less interruptions when you’re in the moment!
  • Use way less than water based

Cons:

  • Harder to wash off
  • Can stain sheets
  • Pricey compared to water based

Personally, silicone based is my favorite type of lube. Spending a few extra moments scrubbing in the shower is nothing compared to the feeling of having anal sex with a high quality silicone based. The price difference can be totally overlooked because you end up using so much less than it’s water based counterpart.

My favorite is Pjur Man Extremeglide. It is the bees knees when it comes to anal lubes. It is so velvety smooth, it really makes you feel like your ass was meant to be occupied!
